A slippery soap

Ever notice how as long as the bar of soap in the shower stays whole, it lasts longer? Even if it's almost thin enough to see through, it's useful. Onto the washcloth, over your hands, through your fingers... you can hold on. But just as soon as it breaks in two (usually in the middle), it's all over. You might as well throw it away. You can't find it. You can't hold onto it. It seems to be used up at twice the rate because it's surface area is more exposed.

Are relationships, marriages?, like that? As long as it's whole, stuck together as it were, it's stronger, more useful. But let it crack--let it break!--and it's all over. You can't put it back together again. With time and use, it may not be as plump and full as it once was, but even worn and thin, it's stronger together than in two.
